I joined Radio Hillingdon in 1982, at the age of 17. I was prompted to join by a feature on LBC’s overnight programme hosted by Steve Allen. He featured Hospital Radio as a series on his overnight show, and I heard interviews with the volunteers of Radio Hillingdon. I thought it sounded like a really good and worthwhile thing to do, so I visited Radio Hillingdon and ended up staying.
Over the many years that I have been a member of Radio Hillingdon, I have held various management committee positions, including Chairman for the majority of the 1990’s. In 2002 I was elected as a London Borough of Hillingdon Councillor, and took a step back from Radio Hillingdon, although I remained a member. I later returned to presenting the Thursday Late Show, which I currently present.
In 2024 I retired from my day job, in Cyber Security, and in 2026 I retired from the council, but one thing that has been a constant in my life, from leaving school to my retirement, has been my love for Hospital Radio, and in particular, Radio Hillingdon, which is a great organisation to be part of, and a great way to put a smile on the faces of hospital patients, care home residents and community based users of local health and wellbeing services.
